NYCHA resident reports missing belongings and mother's ashes during renovations
A resident of the Gowanus Houses in Brooklyn, Katrina Gorham, reports that over 100 boxes of personal belongings went missing during a temporary relocation for apartment renovations. Among the lost items are family documents, clothing, and the cremated remains of Gorham’s mother, who passed away in 1988.
The relocation was part of a multimillion-dollar renovation project managed by the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) to modernize the complex. Gorham stated she was required to pack quickly due to the discovery of asbestos, lead, and mold in her unit.
NYCHA confirmed it has received a property claim and is currently investigating the matter. The Mega Technico Joint Venture, which is overseeing the renovations, is also conducting an investigation. The moving and storage company involved, ZeroMax, declined to comment on the claims.
