Ünye, Turkey: 18-year-old man dies after jumping into sea

An 18-year-old man, identified as B. S., died after jumping from the Ünye Pier in the Kaledere neighborhood of Ordu, Turkey, during the early hours of the morning.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 01:00. The young man had reportedly borrowed a mobile phone from a bystander to speak with his girlfriend before jumping from the end of the pier and disappearing into the water.

Following reports from witnesses to emergency services, search and rescue teams—including AFAD, the Coast Guard Command, and Ordu Metropolitan Municipality underwater divers—conducted a search for approximately 2.5 hours. His body was eventually recovered from beneath the pier.

The deceased was taken to the Ünye State Hospital morgue. Local police and the public prosecutor's office have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
