Nyesom Wike declines APC 2027 campaign leadership role
As Nigeria enters the 2027 election cycle, political maneuvering is intensifying. The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially constituted its Presidential Campaign Council, appointing former Zamfara State Governor Senator Abdulaziz Yari as Director-General. The council is chaired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda serving as Vice-Chairmen.
Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has clarified his decision not to lead the APC campaign. Wike stated that he is not a member of the APC and expressed concerns about the political risks of holding a high-profile campaign position. He cited historical precedents where campaign directors-general lost their home states, noting that his priority is to secure electoral victories in Rivers State and the FCT. Wike is instead promoting a 'Rainbow Coalition'—a cross-party alliance intended to support Tinubu’s re-election.
In terms of infrastructure, Wike announced that the long-delayed Apo-Karshi road is expected to be completed by November, following the termination of a previous contract. Additionally, the 14-kilometre Bwari-Kubwa road is slated for completion in December. Meanwhile, in Akwa Ibom, stakeholders from various parties have endorsed the re-election bids of President Tinubu, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and Governor Umo Eno for 2027.
