Nyesom Wike pledges support for Tinubu and criticizes political opponents
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has made several significant political and administrative declarations during a media engagement in Port Harcourt. Regarding the 2027 presidential election, Wike reaffirmed his unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu, stating that his primary focus is securing Tinubu’s re-election. He expressed concern that he would be a primary political target for opponents like Atiku Abubakar or Peter Obi should the current administration lose power.
Wike also addressed internal political tensions, accusing Kwara Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and Imo Governor Hope Uzodimma of working against his interests. He further criticized the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association, alleging the body has become a partisan political entity rather than a professional organization. Additionally, he questioned Rotimi Amaechi’s suitability for the vice presidency, citing past actions involving the judiciary.
On administrative matters, Wike announced the suspension of a director within the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) for allegedly facilitating illegal building approvals on Abuja's waterways. This move is part of an effort to mitigate flooding in the capital. He also reported that 29 out of 33 inherited infrastructure projects in the FCT have been completed.
