Nyesom Wike demands loyalty from Atiku Abubakar

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has reportedly issued a demand for absolute loyalty from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. Wike has allegedly threatened to ensure the former presidential candidate is permanently retired from active politics if he fails to align with Wike’s political leadership structure.

The tension between the two figures stems from the 2022 Peoples Democratic Party presidential primary and disagreements involving the G-5 governors’ group. As political leaders begin positioning themselves for the 2027 general elections, Wike has used his current political leverage to dismiss various opposition figures as unable to mount a unified challenge. Atiku’s camp has rejected these threats, asserting that the former Vice President remains a central figure in opposition coalition efforts.
