Nyesom Wike reveals 2023 G5 strategy to weaken Atiku Abubakar

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has sparked political debate by revealing that the G5 governors employed a strategy during the 2023 presidential election to allow Peter Obi to gain votes in parts of the South-South. Wike stated this was intended to deny Atiku Abubakar, the PDP candidate, sufficient votes in a traditional stronghold. He dismissed allegations of illegal election rigging, characterizing the move as a calculated political strategy rather than manipulation of results.

Wike also addressed his political activities ahead of the 2027 elections, reaffirming his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election through his Rainbow Coalition. He noted that while the coalition is a cross-party platform to mobilize support for Tinubu, some APC governors, including Hope Uzodimma, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, and Dapo Abiodun, are opposed to the structure.

Additionally, Wike engaged in a dispute with Senator Ireti Kingibe regarding FCT Administration borrowing. Responding to Kingibe’s allegations that loans were obtained without National Assembly approval, Wike defended the process, stating that borrowing is integrated into the approved budget. He further predicted that Kingibe would not return to the Senate in 2027.
