Nyesom Wike orders demolitions and bans car lots in Abuja

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has launched a series of enforcement actions in Abuja to address urban planning violations and mitigate flooding. Following heavy rainfall that caused significant flooding in districts like Maitama and Wuse, Wike ordered the immediate demolition of structures obstructing designated waterways and drainage channels.

As part of these measures, the FCT Administration has banned the use of green belts, parks, and recreational areas—including Millennium Park—as commercial car dealership lots. A task force has been established to enforce this directive, and an investigation has been launched into civil servants suspected of granting illegal approvals for these commercial uses.

Additionally, Wike ordered the demolition of approximately 30 buildings encroaching on the Ring Road III corridor near Karsana. The Minister also inspected several ongoing infrastructure projects, including the Zaudna-Kagini-Kaba road and the Garki Magistrate Court complex, both of which are slated for completion by December. In a separate development, Wike assured that the IBB Golf and Country Club would be rehabilitated and reopened by December following a presidential directive to restore the facility for the diplomatic community.
