Nymphaeum on Bunardzhik Hill officially reopened in Plovdiv

The restored Nymphaeum on Bunardzhik Hill has been officially reopened in Plovdiv during the inaugural ‘Festival of the Hills’. The ancient fountain, also known as the ‘Fountain of the Nymphs’, underwent a comprehensive restoration to preserve its historical and cultural significance.

The project was initiated by the Central District and funded by the association ‘Business for Plovdiv’. While the structural integrity of the monument has been secured and potable water is flowing, some finishing touches remain. The columns are currently in a raw state and are scheduled to be processed and aged by the end of October to match the appearance of the original stone.

Historically, the site dates back to the Roman era, with records of the sanctuary existing since the 16th century. The original structure was destroyed in 1910 and later partially restored in 1935. This latest restoration aims to ensure the monument's longevity for future generations.
