NYPD investigates Capital One vandalism in Manhattan
The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating the vandalism of a Capital One bank branch on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. The incident occurred on the morning of Monday, October 19, 2026, when a brick was thrown through a window at the branch located on East 86th Street.
Palestine Action, a direct action activist group, has claimed responsibility for the attack. The group targeted the bank due to allegations that Capital One has provided more than $500 million in loans to Elbit Systems, an Israeli defense company. Graffiti including “Pal Action” and “Drop Elbit” was found on the building.
New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin condemned the destruction, describing it as “deeply disturbing and unacceptable” and urging an investigation into whether the act constitutes an antisemitic hate crime. Police are currently treating the matter as criminal mischief and a possible bias incident.
