NYPD officer accidentally discharges weapon in Brooklyn subway station

An NYPD officer accidentally discharged a service weapon at the Kingston-Throop Avenue subway station in Brooklyn on a Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred around 4:40 p.m. on the C train line in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood.

Bullet fragments from the single accidental round struck a fellow officer and a 34-year-old female bystander. All three individuals involved were transported to a local hospital but were reported to be in stable condition and have since been released.

The NYPD has placed both officers involved on modified duty, restricting them to administrative tasks while the Force Investigation Division conducts a probe into the discharge. One report noted that the weapon reportedly never left its holster and that an officer mentioned something had jammed in the firearm, though the department has not released specific details regarding the exact cause of the discharge.
