NYPD officer Kamir Loubarria dies during academy training

Probationary NYPD officer Kamir Loubarria died after collapsing during a workout at the Stephen D. McDonald Police Academy in College Point, Queens, on September 7, 2026.

Loubarria, who joined the department in April, was rushed to Booth Memorial Hospital after the collapse. Although he was reportedly breathing and awake for a period following CPR administration, his condition worsened, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital. The medical examiner is expected to determine the official cause of death.

The NYPD issued a statement mourning the loss, describing Loubarria as a person “committed to a life of service and helping to keep New York City safe.” Patrick Hendry, president of the Police Benevolent Association, also paid tribute, stating that Loubarria was “already a hero” for his dedication to protecting New Yorkers.
