NYPD releases video showing destruction of seized firearms

The New York Police Department (NYPD) released a 90-second video on social media on Monday showcasing the destruction of hundreds of seized firearms. The footage depicts semiautomatic handguns and various rifles being transported by officers and subsequently melted down in a blast furnace.

The NYPD stated that the illegal weapons are melted down to ensure they can never cause harm again. The video shows the molten metal being poured to be repurposed for other items. This follows previous efforts by New York City officials, including former Mayor Eric Adams and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, to destroy thousands of firearms and donate the resulting metal to vocational programs for memorial projects.
