NYPD seeks woman after attempted kidnapping of child in Manhattan subway

The New York City Police Department is searching for a woman accused of attempting to kidnap a 6-year-old girl at the Inwood-207th Street subway station in Manhattan. The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.

According to investigators, the suspect approached the child from behind while she was with her mother and 11-month-old brother near the turnstiles. The woman grabbed the girl and attempted to pull her away, but the mother intervened by shouting and pulling her daughter back to safety. The suspect managed to escape the station by boarding a southbound A train.

While the child did not sustain physical injuries and was evaluated by emergency medical services at the scene, her mother reported that the girl has been traumatized and is receiving psychological therapy. The NYPD has released surveillance imagery and is requesting public assistance in identifying the suspect.
