NYSE President praises South Korean capital market sophistication
Lynn Martin, President of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), highlighted the importance of market stability and technological integration during a seminar at the South Korean National Assembly. Martin emphasized that the NYSE manages market volatility by combining advanced technology, such as the 'Pillar' integrated trading platform, with human judgment through Designated Market Makers (DMMs) assigned to every listed security.
Martin noted that this hybrid approach helps maintain narrow bid-ask spreads and reduces price fluctuations even during high-volume periods. He also shared plans to expand U.S. market trading hours from 16 hours to 23 hours per day to increase investor access.
Regarding the South Korean capital market, Martin praised its scale, sophistication, and ambition, stating that it possesses the capacity to compete with the world's top-tier financial markets. He expressed a desire for the NYSE to act as a partner in the development of South Korea's financial sector.
