NYSE tested Avalanche blockchain technology for nearly one year
The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) has spent approximately one year testing Avalanche blockchain technology as part of its efforts to develop infrastructure for tokenized securities, according to Ava Labs President Charley Cooper. The testing process, which involved a close working relationship between the exchange and Ava Labs, focused on evaluating both the technical performance and the economic models of the Avalanche network.
Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) indicated that Avalanche meets several of its requirements as the operator evaluates various networks for its onchain plans. The proposed NYSE platform aims to support tokenized U.S. stocks and ETFs using blockchain-based settlement, though such a system remains subject to regulatory approval.
While the technical and economic assessments have been extensive, Cooper noted that the NYSE has not yet officially selected a specific blockchain for its platform. The evaluation included determining whether the technology provider understood the complex business requirements of operating one of the world’s largest securities markets.
