NYT Connections launches daily sports and soccer puzzle editions
The New York Times’ Connections word game released its Sports Edition on June 26, offering four categories – Indiana colleges, golf‑equipment brands, first‑year NFL head coaches and U.S. men’s national‑team World Cup goalkeepers. Players must group sixteen words into four correct sets, with up to four mistakes allowed.
Two days later, a Soccer Edition appeared for the 2026 World Cup, created by senior editor Will Jeanes of The Athletic. Its categories included goalkeeper positions, backroom staff roles, England captains and items associated with a hat‑trick. Like the sports version, the puzzle runs daily at midnight and follows the same four‑color difficulty system.
Both editions continue the Connections series’ blend of sports knowledge and word‑puzzle mechanics, inviting fans to solve and share results online.
