Canada Post reports $277M pre-tax loss in Q2 2026

Canada Post reported a $277 million pre-tax loss for the second quarter of 2026. While this represents a $130 million improvement compared to the $407 million loss recorded during the same period in 2025, the corporation's revenue for the first six months of the year fell by $159 million.

The company attributed the improved quarterly performance to labor stability following the ratification of new collective agreements with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers in June, alongside lower operating costs and a recovery in the parcel business. However, quarterly parcel revenue saw a significant year-over-year increase of 20.7%.

To address ongoing financial challenges, Canada Post is implementing reforms, including a long-term plan to transition approximately four million addresses from door-to-door delivery to community mailboxes. This transition, which is expected to begin in late 2026 and 2027, aims to reduce costs, as door-to-door delivery is estimated to be 75% more expensive than community mailbox delivery.
