O Barco cemetery expansion delayed by technical error
The expansion of the municipal cemetery in O Barco has been delayed due to a technical issue with the electronic platform used for the bidding process. The problem occurred when officials attempted to access encrypted documentation submitted by companies competing for the project, which has a budget of 284,000 euros.
Mayor Aurentino Alonso stated that the system failed to decrypt the files. The City Council has reported the issue to the platform administrators and is awaiting a solution. If the technical error cannot be resolved, the council may need to relaunch the tender through the Public Sector Contracting Platform or explore alternative legal procurement methods.
The expansion is intended to address a long-standing shortage of burial spaces. By October 2024, no niches were available for sale, and previous estimates indicated approximately 80 families were on a waiting list. The planned project, designated as phase H, aims to add 220 new burial sites.
