O Carballiño to host Holy Year Jubilee at Veracruz Temple

The Diocese of Ourense has been granted a Holy Year Jubilee by Pope Leo XIV to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the inauguration of the Veracruz Temple in O Carballiño and the 125th anniversary of the presence of the Vera Cruz relic in the town.

The official opening of the Holy Year is scheduled for October 31, with the jubilee period concluding on September 17, 2027. The initiative was driven by local parish priests and supported by various cultural, civil, and religious associations.

Preparations are currently underway, including the installation of official jubilee flags throughout the municipality and the cleaning and decoration of the temple. Special attention is being given to the Holy Door, which will be presided over by an image of the crucified Christ. The celebration will also feature the blessing of a new reliquary to house the historical relic alongside two additional fragments of the Cross of Christ recently donated from Bochum, Germany.
