O. J. Brigance, Ravens legend and Super Bowl champion, dies at 56

O. J. Brigance, a former Baltimore Ravens linebacker and longtime player engagement advisor, has died at age 56 following a 19-year battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Brigance was a significant figure in Baltimore sports history, notably being the only player to win both a Grey Cup and a Super Bowl in the same city. He won the Grey Cup with the Baltimore Stallions in 1995 and recorded the first tackle of the Ravens' Super Bowl XXXV victory in 2000. Following his playing career, he transitioned into a front-office role, earning recognition for his work in player development.

After his ALS diagnosis in 2007, Brigance and his wife, Chanda, founded the Brigance Brigade Foundation. The nonprofit organization focuses on raising awareness and providing support, equipment, and resources to individuals living with ALS and their families. Despite the physical challenges of the disease, Brigance remained a visible and inspirational presence within the Ravens organization and the Baltimore community until his death.
