O Último Azul named among IndieWire’s best films of 2026
The Brazilian film ‘O Último Azul’, directed by Gabriel Mascaro, has been named one of the best films of 2026 by the American outlet IndieWire. The film, which stars Denise Weinberg and Rodrigo Santoro, was included in a list alongside works by directors such as Christopher Nolan and Olivia Wilde.
Set in a dystopian Amazon, the story follows 77-year-old Tereza as she resists a government mandate to relocate elderly citizens to isolated colonies, instead embarking on a journey through the region's rivers. The film explores themes of aging, maturity, and the impact of oppressive technology on humanity.

It has also been featured at the Shanghai International Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival, and the Guadalajara International Film Festival, where it won Best Ibero-American Fiction Film.
