O Melhor Gelado da Rua launches Italian-inspired artisan ice cream brand across Portugal

Portuguese bakery chain O Melhor Croissant da Rua has introduced a new self‑produced ice‑cream line called O Melhor Gelado da Rua. The brand draws on Italian gelato tradition, using a Bologna‑derived base and fresh, locally sourced fruit, with many vegan‑friendly flavours such as strawberry, mango, passion‑fruit and avocado. Prices range from €3.80 for a single scoop to €5.80 for three flavours.

The first dedicated O Melhor Gelado store opened in Sesimbra at Rua Serpa Pinto 30, occupying the original Croissant shop space. A second outlet was inaugurated at the Fórum Algarve in Faro, extending the brand’s presence to the southern region. Founder André Cidade, who spent three decades learning gelato in Italy and later producing it in his family’s pastry shop, said the launch reflects his long‑standing commitment to quality and authentic ingredients.
