O Porriño prepares record municipal budget for 2027
The municipality of O Porriño is preparing to approve its first budgets since 2024, which are expected to be the highest in the town's history. Following the settlement of a pending credit, the local government will no longer be subject to Treasury oversight for budget creation, allowing for a projected 26.8 million euros in 2027, up from the current 20.8 million.
Mayor Alejandro Lorenzo announced that the budget will include over five million euros in investments while maintaining frozen tax rates. Key priorities include a significant increase in social services, specifically through the creation of a ‘tarxeta familia’ (family card). This tool is intended to replace the current food bank system, allowing disadvantaged families to purchase essential goods directly from supermarkets to reduce social stigma.
