O Rei do Gado legacy celebrated by cast and creators
Brazilian television is celebrating the legacy of the telenovela ‘O Rei do Gado’, written by Benedito Ruy Barbosa. A special program, ‘Viver Sertanejo’, commemorates the production, which was distributed to over 50 countries.
During a television appearance, actor Antônio Fagundes reflected on his role in the series, which aired between 1996 and 1997. He recalled the criticism he faced for adopting a heavy regional accent for his character, Bruno Mezenga. Despite viewers complaining that the prosody made his lines difficult to understand, Fagundes chose to maintain the accent to preserve the character's authenticity.
The anniversary special also features tributes to the show's soundtrack and cast. Musicians and actors, including Jackson Antunes and Silvia Pfeifer, discuss the production's impact and the creative process behind its iconic characters and music.
