O2 explains the complexities of mobile transmitter construction

O2 mobile products and services manager Ondrej Ličko has detailed the complexities involved in the construction and operation of mobile transmitters. The process of establishing a new transmitter is both costly and time-consuming, requiring operators to identify locations with optimal visibility, secure agreements with property owners, and ensure access to electricity and connectivity.

Connectivity is achieved through either fiber optic connections or high-speed wireless point-to-point links in areas where fiber is technically unfeasible. In remote locations, equipment may even require helicopter transport. The density of transmitters is higher in urban areas to maintain signal quality, and in some cases, competitors may share the same rooftop infrastructure. The construction timeline is often extended by the necessary permitting processes and negotiations with building owners.
