OAB appoints lawyer accused of buying sentences to STF crisis group

The Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) has appointed Gedeon Batista Pitalunga Júnior, the president of the OAB in Tocantins, to a working group tasked with analyzing potential measures against Supreme Federal Court (STF) ministers and Prosecutor General Paulo Gonet. The group was established to address issues involving banker Daniel Vorcaro.

Pitalunga is currently a defendant in the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) regarding an investigation into a suspected scheme to sell judicial decisions in Tocantins. Investigations from Operations Toth and Madset alleged that Pitalunga was involved in suspicious bank movements and that a judge had ordered an assistant to collect R$ 20,000 from him. The prosecution has accused him of corruption and money laundering related to a 2015 waste collection tender in Palmas.
