OAB-DF unveils Violentômetro to map stages of violence against women
The Federal District section of Brazil’s Bar Association (OAB‑DF) launched the Violentômetro Jurídico on Friday, 7 May, during a seminar marking the 20th anniversary of the Lei Maria da Penha. The tool outlines three escalation stages – “Fique Atenta”, “Proteja‑se” and “Fuja” – describing signs from psychological and moral abuse to physical and sexual violence.
The presentation was led by Nildete Santana de Oliveira, director of the OAB‑DF Women’s department, who said the Violentômetro “gives a name to what many women cannot yet identify as violence” and aims to empower victims to seek help early. At the same event the OAB‑DF received the “Nós Por Elas” seal, recognizing its commitment to safer, inclusive environments for women.
Brazil recorded 1,571 femicide victims in 2025, with 29 cases in the Distrito Federal. MPDFT representative Cláudia Braga Núñez linked the high local numbers to a police protocol that investigates all female homicides from a gender perspective.
