OAB Rio wins court case against AI-powered petition platform
The Rio de Janeiro section of the Brazilian Bar Association (OABRJ) has secured a victory in Federal Court against the platform Resolve Juizado. The platform offered automated legal petitions generated by artificial intelligence for a fee of R$ 20.
Following an appeal, the court prohibited the platform from charging for petitions provided without the participation of a lawyer. The OABRJ argued that selling such legal documents without professional oversight trivializes legal practice and could mislead citizens into believing they are receiving proper legal guidance.
The legal dispute began in April 2025. While previous decisions had allowed the platform to continue certain activities, the OABRJ sought intervention from the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), asserting that the service constituted the illegal practice of law and posed a threat to public order and citizenship.
