OAB-RJ proposes new police reporting option for fake lawyer scams
The Rio de Janeiro section of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB-RJ) has submitted a proposal to the State Secretariat of Public Security to include a specific reporting option for fake lawyer scams on the Civil Police portal.
Since January 2025, the OAB-RJ has received more than 3,000 reports regarding this type of fraud. Criminals reportedly use the names, images, and professional registration numbers of legitimate lawyers to deceive victims into making payments or sharing sensitive financial and personal information.
The proposal, formalized by OAB-RJ President Ana Tereza Basilio, seeks to facilitate victim communication and improve the systematic organization of data to assist law enforcement in combating these crimes.
