OAB SP launches statewide campaign against digital violence in schools

The Brazilian Bar Association (OAB SP) is launching a statewide mobilization titled ‘Dia D’ to combat digital violence in schools. Scheduled for September 28, 29, and 30, the initiative involves lectures titled ‘Digital violence: protection, rights, and duties’ aimed at students ranging from the 8th grade of elementary school to the 3rd year of high school.

The campaign targets various regions across the state of São Paulo, including Taubaté, São José dos Campos, and coastal cities such as Santos, São Vicente, Bertioga, Itanhaém, and Iguape. The program expects to reach thousands of students through dozens of participating schools.

This mobilization follows alarming data from a study by Unicef, in partnership with ECPAT International and Interpol, which found that 19% of Brazilian adolescents aged 12 to 17 were victims of technology-facilitated sexual exploitation or abuse within a single year. Additionally, 3% of those surveyed reported that artificial intelligence was used to create sexual images or videos using their likeness. OAB SP Vice President Daniela Magalhães stated the goal is to provide information on rights and duties while preparing legal professionals to handle these issues responsibly with adolescent audiences.
