OAFI Foundation inaugurates health center in Sant Esteve del Llémena

The OAFI Foundation (Osteoarthritis Foundation International) has inaugurated Casa OAFI in Sant Esteve del Llémena, a village in the Garrotxa region of Spain. The project was made possible through the purchase of a former rectory by the Sant Aniol de Finestres City Council.

Led by Dr. Josep Vergés, the foundation aims to address osteoarticular health, specifically targeting osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and sarcopenia. These conditions affect approximately 600 million people globally, with women representing eight out of every ten cases. The new facility spans 1,000 square meters and six hectares, providing space for solidarity-based consultations, meeting rooms, and prevention campaigns.

The center is designed to serve as a hub for patients, healthcare professionals, researchers, and companies. Local officials, including the President of the Girona Provincial Council and the President of the Parliament of Catalonia, have highlighted the project's ability to bring international research and treatment capabilities to a small rural community.
