Oak Bay home relocation: 114-year-old house moved overnight

A 114-year-old Craftsman-style home, known as Hampshire Honey, was relocated from Oak Bay to North Saanich in an overnight operation. The 1912 residence was moved from Hampshire Road to McNeill Bay on October 25, where it was loaded onto a barge for transport to a Nickel Bros storage property.

The relocation involved approximately 20 personnel across two crews, supported by traffic control and pilot vehicles. The house, measuring roughly 90 feet long, 32 feet wide, and nearly 20 feet tall, required specialized hydraulic dolly systems to navigate residential streets and obstacles such as fire hydrants.

The operation began around 8 p.m. on Sunday and reached McNeill Bay at approximately 4 a.m. on Monday, with the barge arriving at 5 a.m. This move was part of a series of relocations coordinated by Nickel Bros, which included moving a duplex and other houses to locations such as Cobble Hill and Washington state.
