Oak Bay Police arrest man on warrant following suspected rifle report

Oak Bay Police arrested a man on an endorsed warrant following a report of a suspected rifle in the 2100 block of Oak Bay Avenue. While the object the man was carrying resembled a firearm from a distance, officers determined it was actually an object made of metal piping secured with rope, cloth, and bicycle locks.

During the investigation, police discovered the man was wanted in connection with a Columbia Valley RCMP investigation involving assault and break-and-enter. He was served with an appearance notice and released to appear in court at a later date.

In a separate matter, Oak Bay Police are seeking public assistance to identify two suspects linked to a fraud ring operating across British Columbia and Alberta. The group is believed to have deposited fraudulent cheques into newly opened accounts before withdrawing the cash.
