OAKA sports complex to be renovated by late September
Greek Minister of State Akis Skertsos announced that the OAKA sports complex is expected to be essentially new by the end of September. Marking 22 years since the 2004 Athens Olympics, Skertsos reflected on the nation's success in hosting the games but admitted a collective failure in managing and maintaining the post-Olympic infrastructure.
Since 2022, a comprehensive renovation and modernization program has been underway, funded by the Recovery Fund. The project is overseen by the Strategic Investments Unit of the GSRI, the Ministry of Sport, and the OAKA administration. The upgrades include structural repairs, energy efficiency improvements, and enhancements to the swimming pools and velodrome to create a modern, safe, and accessible public space.
