Oakland activists demand arms embargo on military cargo to Israel

Activists and student organizations are campaigning for an arms embargo to halt military cargo shipments departing from Oakland International Airport to Israel. A report released by the Palestinian Youth Movement indicates that since January 2025, approximately 280 military shipments have left the airport, with Nevatim Airbase serving as a primary destination.

The report highlights that between April and June 2025, Oakland Airport was the second most frequent transit point for shipments containing F-35 fighter jet components. These parts are used for munitions carriage, weapon guidance, and surveillance systems.

In response, the ‘Oakland People’s Arms Embargo’ petition—led by the Palestinian Youth Movement, the Arab Resource and Organizing Center, and the U.S. Palestinian Community Network—has gathered over 20,000 signatures. Student groups from San Francisco State University, including the General Union of Palestine Students and Movimiento Estudiantil para la Liberación de las Américas, have endorsed the movement to demand a complete cessation of military cargo exiting the region.
