Oakland Athletics defeat Boston Red Sox to secure first series win since June

The Oakland Athletics secured their first series win since mid-June by defeating the Boston Red Sox 4-3 in the final game of a three-game set at Fenway Park. Max Muncy provided the decisive blow with a tiebreaking RBI double in the ninth inning against closer Aroldis Chapman. During the series, Athletics shortstop Jacob Wilson set a new major league record for his position by playing his 111th consecutive errorless game, surpassing Mike Bordick’s 2002 record of 110. Additionally, Jeff McNeil recorded his 1,000th career hit during the series.

The Red Sox, currently 64-53, now head to Toronto for a four-game series against the Blue Jays. The team may see a significant lineup boost with the potential activation of catcher Adley Rutschman, who is traveling with the club following a rehab assignment.
