The Oakland Athletics placed 25‑year‑old Taiwanese right‑hander Chuang Chen‑Chung on the designated‑for‑assignment (DFA) list to clear a spot on their 40‑man roster for infielder Jonathan Ornelas. The move also sent outfielder Colby Thomas to Triple‑A, freeing the roster space needed for the transaction.

Chuang, who joined the Athletics in 2021, spent the 2024 season in the Pacific Coast League but struggled, posting a 7.84 ERA over 59.2 innings with a drop in strikeout rate to 14.8% and a rise in walks to 9.9%. After a promising 2023 that earned him protection on the 40‑man roster, his performance this year led to his removal. The DFA gives the club up to five days to trade, release, or outright him to the minors.
