Oakland replaces Too $hort honorary street sign after theft

The City of Oakland has installed a replacement for the honorary “Too $hort Way” street sign after the original marker was discovered missing on Wednesday, Oct. 21. The sign was located at the corner of Foothill Boulevard and High Street in East Oakland.

Oakland police stated they could not confirm the specifics of the incident, noting they had no “incident details” regarding the reported theft. While stealing a street sign is a misdemeanor in Oakland, authorities had not received formal reports at the time of the announcement.

The three-block stretch of Foothill Boulevard, running from High Street to 47th Avenue near the rapper’s alma mater, Fremont High School, was dedicated to Too $hort in December 2022. The original unveiling ceremony included local officials and fellow artists such as Ice Cube, Mistah F. A. B., and Sway Calloway.
