Oakland woman critically injured by car driven by young children

Kiara Darvonne Bowling, a 31-year-old event planner and pageant competitor, is in intensive care at Highland Hospital in Oakland following a car accident. Bowling suffered multiple brain injuries, brain bleeds, and facial fractures after being struck by a white Toyota Camry while walking a friend's emotional support dog.

The crash occurred Thursday morning near 35th and Mangels avenues in East Oakland. Surveillance footage shows the vehicle, which was reportedly taken by two young brothers aged 4 and 6 while their parents were sleeping, sideswiping another vehicle before striking Bowling. An emotional support dog involved in the incident was also injured but was later recovered by a veterinarian.

Legal analysts have noted the unusual nature of the incident, stating the legal system is not typically equipped to handle cases involving children of such young ages. While the circumstances involve significant injury, the likelihood of criminal charges for the parents remains a complex question regarding accountability for child endangerment.
