Inter Milan owner Oaktree explores European satellite club acquisition

Oaktree, the American investment fund that owns Inter Milan, is exploring the acquisition of a European satellite club to enhance the development of young players. The project aims to create a structured pathway for talent, serving as a bridge between the club’s youth academy and its Under-23 team.

Reports indicate a budget of approximately €25 million to €45 million for the acquisition. The ownership is currently evaluating clubs in several countries, specifically targeting first-division teams in Belgium, Portugal, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. There is also interest in the Spanish second division, which could provide strategic advantages regarding non-EU player registration rules.

This multi-club ownership model follows strategies used by major football groups such as City Football Group, Red Bull, and BlueCo. The goal is to provide young players with consistent competitive minutes abroad while keeping them within the Inter ecosystem. The ownership hopes to finalize an acquisition relatively quickly, potentially having the new club operational for the 2027 transfer window.
