Oana Gheorghiu faces scrutiny over MIPE salaries and performance
Vice-premier Oana Gheorghiu is facing criticism regarding both her administrative performance and a dispute over salary protections for employees at the Ministry of Investments and European Projects (MIPE).
Regarding labor issues, union representatives at MIPE claim that a new law's guarantee—which promises that no employee will lose money—is flawed. While the law aims to ensure comparable pay for equivalent work, it explicitly excludes certain benefits such as project team increases and specific European fund management incentives. Consequently, while base salaries may remain stable, the total income for some staff could decrease.
Separately, former Government Secretary General Ștefan-Radu Oprea has questioned Gheorghiu’s effectiveness in her role. Oprea cited concerns over her communication style and alleged failures in governance, including the loss of approximately 198 million euros from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and involvement in controversies regarding pressure on public institutions.
