OAS praises Brazil's electronic voting system as an example of excellence
The Organization of American States (OAS) Electoral Observation Mission released a preliminary report praising Brazil’s electronic voting system as an ‘example of excellence for the region and the world.’ The mission noted that the efficiency in counting and announcing results strengthens transparency and trust in the country’s democratic processes.
Led by former OAS Secretary-General José Miguel Insulza, the team characterized the election as a ‘peaceful and civic journey’ and commended the work of the Electoral Court and security forces for ensuring an organized vote without major incidents.
The report also addressed the upcoming second round between Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Flávio Bolsonaro. The OAS urged campaign teams to maintain a climate of respect focused on programmatic debates and called on all actors to respect Brazilian institutions and the sovereign will of the people.
