OAS to send international observers for Brazil elections

The Organization of American States (OAS) has announced it will send an international mission to monitor Brazil’s general elections in October. The observers will visit polling stations and meet with Brazilian authorities during both the first and second rounds of voting.

The agreement to allow these observers into the country was signed on Thursday by OAS Secretary-General Albert Ramdim and Brazil’s representative to the organization, Benoni Belli. This deployment is considered a standard procedure within international cooperation agreements.

This marks the fifth time the OAS has sent representatives to Brazil, a practice maintained since the 2018 presidential elections. During the 2022 elections, the OAS concluded that the process occurred with order and normality. Other international bodies, including the European Union, the Mercosur Parliament (Parlasul), and the Arab League, have also confirmed they will send observers.
