OASA telematics outage disrupts Athens public transport information
The Athens Urban Transport Organization (OASA) is experiencing a prolonged telematics system outage that has lasted for three days. The failure began in the early hours of Thursday, impacting the ability of passengers to receive real-time information regarding bus and trolley arrivals.
The blackout affects multiple digital services, including the OASA Telematics mobile application, the official website, and the digital information boards located at hundreds of 'smart' bus stops across the city. Passengers at stops have reported seeing only 'test mode' messages instead of arrival times.
While OASA maintains that the actual vehicle schedules and operations remain unaffected, the lack of real-time data has caused significant inconvenience for commuters, particularly during the current summer schedule. Some transport unionists have raised concerns regarding a potential cyberattack, though OASA has neither confirmed nor denied this possibility.
Following an investigation into the incident, which has been described as serious, technical teams are currently working on a gradual restoration of the system. A credit of 15,000 euros has been allocated to facilitate the necessary investigative services.
