OASA telematics system outage disrupts Athens public transport
The OASA telematics system in Attica has been out of service for a second consecutive day due to a technical failure, causing significant disruption to public transport users. The outage affects real-time information provided via the OASA Telematics mobile application, the official website, and digital displays at bus and trolley stops, which currently show a ‘test mode’ message.
Passengers are unable to track vehicle locations or estimated arrival times, leading to increased wait times during a period of high temperatures and summer schedules. While OASA has stated that bus and trolley routes are operating normally and that technical teams are working on a resolution, the lack of real-time data has caused frustration among commuters and tourists.
Although rumors of a cyberattack have circulated, some sources within OASA have explicitly denied the possibility of hacking, categorizing the incident as a technical issue. The telematics system is managed through a Public-Private Partnership involving Advanced Transport Telematics, which includes the AKTOR Group and Netcompany.
