Oaxaca allocates over 3.3 bn pesos for municipal security and funds 6,500 communities through FAISPAM

The state of Oaxaca announced that more than 3.3 billion pesos will be distributed via the Fortamun program to all 570 municipalities. The funds are earmarked for security upgrades such as police stations, video‑surveillance cameras, communication equipment, uniforms, training and salary improvements for municipal police forces. Municipalities must report their spending quarterly, with a reporting deadline of 17 July 2026.

Separately, the FAISPAM (Fondo de Aportaciones para la Infraestructura Social a Pueblos Indígenas y Afromexicanos) program provides direct budget support to 6,500 indigenous and Afro‑Mexican communities across Oaxaca. Governor Salomón Jara Cruz highlighted the program’s role in enabling local assemblies to decide and manage basic infrastructure projects, and praised President Claudia Sheinbaum for her cooperation with the state.

Both initiatives are presented as part of a broader effort to strengthen public safety and improve living conditions in Oaxaca’s rural and municipal areas.
