Mexico states show divergent wellbeing scores in 2025 INEGI survey

The 2025 Encuesta Nacional de Bienestar Autorreportado (ENBIARE) released by INEGI revealed marked differences in life‑satisfaction scores across Mexican states. San Luis Potosí recorded an average of 8.57, while Sonora posted one of the highest figures at 8.73, ranking sixth nationally. Coahuila topped the list with 8.85, and the northern states of Tamaulipas, Durango, Sinaloa and Baja California Sur all exceeded 8.75.

At the opposite end, Oaxaca registered the lowest score of 8.32, followed by Tabasco (8.48) and several other states under the national average of 8.62. Morelos, the State of Mexico and Nuevo León also fell below the mean, with scores ranging from 8.54 to 8.74.

The survey also highlighted mental‑health concerns. Depression indicators were highest in Oaxaca (15.4 % of adults), Tabasco (15.8 %), Chiapas (15.1 %) and Zacatecas (16.6 %). Overall, 10.9 % of Mexican adults showed signs of depression, with women reporting a higher rate (13.3 %). Positive‑emotion (balance anímico) scores varied, with Coahuila and other northern states leading, while states such as Tabasco and Oaxaca posted the lowest averages.

These results are intended to guide public‑policy decisions, targeting improvements in employment, education, health services, social support and mental‑health programs across the most affected regions.
