Oaxaca authorities apprehend suspect in Mixteca femicide

The State Prosecutor's Office of Oaxaca (FGEO) issued an arrest warrant for a male suspect identified as R. G. M. after investigations linked him to the femicide of D. A. Z. V. The killing occurred on 11 July 2026 in the community of Nican de la Soledad, Santiago Juxtlahuaca, in the Mixteca region. The victim was shot during a dispute and died from severe cranial trauma.

The investigation gathered testimonies, forensic reports and other evidence, leading to the warrant. The State Investigation Agency (Agencia Estatal de Investigaciones) located and detained R. G. M., who was then presented to ministerial authorities. The Oaxaca prosecutor’s office reiterated its commitment to pursue gender‑based violence cases with a gender‑perspective and to ensure access to justice for victims and their families.
