Oaxaca attempted homicide illegal firearm sale FGEO arrests

The Fiscalía General del Estado de Oaxaca (FGEO) executed an arrest order on May 22 for R.P.S., a man accused of the March 14, 2026 attempted homicide of M.P.J. in the village of Profesor Otilio Montaño, Matías Romero Avendaño. The suspect was apprehended by the Agencia Estatal de Investigaciones (AEI) on a rural road and transferred to the public ministry for legal processing.

On May 21, FGEO agents also detained two men, including the director of the Santa María Atzompa municipal traffic police, after catching them in the act of illegally selling firearms in the Oaxaca Metropolitan Zone. The seizure was carried out by the AEI under suspicion of violations of the Federal Law on Firearms and Explosives.
