Oaxaca authorities detain suspect in May homicide case

The State Attorney General's Office of Oaxaca (FGEO) executed a warrant on June 6, 2026, arresting a male suspect identified as S.J.V. for his alleged role in a qualified homicide that occurred on May 3, 2026 in San Melchor Betaza, Villa Alta. The victim was attacked with a metal object after a celebration for the Day of the Holy Cross, resulting in fatal injuries.

The suspect was apprehended by the State Investigations Agency on the Oaxaca‑Puerto Ángel highway near kilometer 13.5 and placed in the custody of the corresponding ministerial authority for legal processing.
